Celebrating women in engineering at the University of Surrey
Celebrating the talents and achievements of women in engineering at, and from, the University of Surrey. This event is timed to coincide with the centenary of the Women’s Engineering Society of which the University is an educational partner.

You are welcome to attend any and all of the sessions. You will need to select which session you wish to attend when you book your ticket. Group bookings are welcome.

What do engineers do? Session one
|These post-school afternoon sessions will include talks by speakers ranging from final year undergraduates who have spent a year in industry as part of their engineering course, through to young researchers, to alumnae (under 30) from industry. The speakers will also span engineering disciplines from biomedical engineering, through civil, electronic, chemical and mechanical engineering to aerospace. This section of the event is primarily targeted at 16+ school students and our University student population, but all are welcome.|
|5pm - 6pm||What do engineers do? Session two|
|6pm - 7pm||Poster and networking session||
An exhibition from early careers researchers whose posters will aim to present their research in a way accessible to a diverse audience. There will also be information stands about courses and widening participation activities, and the University’s Women in Engineering group.
Booking for this session is not required.
|7pm - 8pm||Successful women engineers and why we need them||The final session will consist of four presentations from women with outstanding industrial and academic careers to date, both very senior and earlier in their careers. A panel question and answer session addressing the issues of women in engineering and the role men need to play in addressing those issues will follow.|
The Lakeside Coffee Shop located at the main entrance to the Rik Medlik building will be open until 6pm and serves a wide variety of teas, coffees and snacks. Complimentary tea and coffee will be served during the poster and networking session from 6pm to 7pm.
Visitors may park in the pay-and-display car park which is signposted from the main entrance to the University of Surrey. After 5pm parking is free in any of the University's car parks. Further information on how to get to the University can be found on our website.
Blue badge holders should park in an available disabled bay (marked on our disabled access campus map ) and clearly display their badge. Unfortunately, we can't reserve a disabled space in advance, as this could inhibit the regular members of our community who use the bays.
Unfortunately cloak and left luggage facilities will not be available for this event. We ask that visitors keep all their belongings with them at all times.
Male, female and disabled access toilets are located on each floor of the Rik Medlik building. All floors can be accessed by a lift.
Visitors should use The Cloud to connect to the wireless service when visiting the University of Surrey. The Cloud is a free public access wireless service with thousands of hotspots and millions of registered users, it provides simple, fast and reliable wireless Internet access.
