Alumni bring industry experience to Business School

Our alumni play a huge part in Surrey being a leading national and international university by supporting high-quality teaching, learning, research and enterprise.

Two of our graduates have joined Surrey Business School as visiting professors – Gavin Whichello, investor entrepreneur and Chairman of Qube Learning, and Dr David Ebsworth, Board Chairman at Verona Pharma.

Gavin, who graduated in 1974 with a BSc in Human and Physical Sciences, is also welcomed on to the School’s Advisory Board. He said: “I am really impressed by what the University is doing which will create the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

David gained his Chemistry and German degree in 1976 followed by PhD in Comparative Industrial Relations. He has a passion for making sure the next generation of business people have the skills to succeed and has set up the David Ebsworth Scholarships for students studying German. “Languages really can be a platform for a successful business career,” he said.

Gavin and David are joined by graduates David Gosen and Professor Paul Stone, also a visiting professor, who have taken up seats on the School’s Advisory Board.

David, who graduated with a BSc in Hotel and Catering Management in 1986, has a track record as CEO and managing director in the media, ad-tech, telecoms, digital and mobile, gaming and entertainment sectors. He has held senior roles in companies such as Nektan, Nielsen, Microsoft, Nintendo and Xbox.

Professor Paul Stone, who gained his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975 and PhD at Surrey, is Independent Director at FuelQuest Inc. (oil products services and IT systems), and Director of Stone and Associates (business advisors, international strategy and growth). Paul was previously Senior Executive Vice President in Shell International and Chairman of one of the Shell Groups.
