Alumnus becomes new tribe ruler

A biochemistry graduate has been installed as the new ruler of a tribe in west Africa.

Professor James Ortese Ayatse, who graduated with a PhD in 1987, is the new Tor Tiv of the Tiv tribe, which numbers around 10 million people in Nigeria and Cameroon. His full title is His Royal Majesty, Begha U Tiv, Orchivirigh, Professor Ortese Iorzua James Ayatse.

He previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and was the first Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.
