Dr Sangwon Park receives Journal Paper of the Year award

Senior Lecturer Dr Sangwon Park has received the Journal Paper of the Year award for his paper exploring the usefulness of online travel reviews.

Senior Lecturer in Hospitality and Tourism Dr Sangwon Park and SHTM MSc graduate Zhiwei Liu have received the Journal Paper of the Year award for their paper ‘What makes a useful online review? Implication for a travel product website’.

Many of us rely on online travel reviews to help make our holiday-making choices, and while there’s lots of information out there provided by reviewers, it can sometimes be difficult to judge which are the most useful and reliable. This paper proposes a model explaining the perceived usefulness of online reviews by investigating two aspects of online information: the characteristics of review providers (disclosure of their personal identity, their expertise and reputation), and the quantitative and qualitative measurements of the reviews themselves.

Dr Park and Mr Liu accepted the award at the ENTER2016 conferencein Bilbao, Spain.

“Winning an award for this paper means a lot to me because I worked on it with a previous MSc student, Zhiwei Liu, whom I supervised,” Dr Park told us. “It always feels great to make a contribution to the reputation of our School!”
