Surrey Sports Park named an approved team base for the Rugby World Cup

University of Surrey facility will be offered as a potential training base for qualifying nations competing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Surrey Sports Park offers award-winning grass pitches, state-of-the-art fitness, strength and conditioning suites, and a 50m swimming pool and is easily accessible to a number of Rugby World Cup 2015 match venues including Twickenham, Wembley Stadium, Olympic Stadium, Stadium MK and Brighton Community Stadium.

The Park is already the permanent training base for Harlequins. It hosted 17 Olympic and Paralympic nations including USA, China and Singapore ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and more recently welcomed Manu Samoa for an autumn training camp ahead of their international match against Ireland. In 2010, the Park played host to the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

The Park’s outstanding facilities and close links with major sporting organisations have helped shape Surrey’s pioneering BSc Sport and Exercise Sciences degree, launching September 2014.
