Local engagement is key to a thriving space sector say Surrey scientists, as the University invites public to World Space Week Highstreet Takeover
Local engagement in all things space and science is a key building block for a thriving regional space sector, say experts from the University of Surrey. The comments come as local residents are invited to Guildford High Street and Tunsgate Quarter Shopping Centre to experience this year's World Space Week takeover on Saturday 11 October.

In partnership with the Institute of Physics, Surrey scientists will be on hand to demonstrate space technologies and research, such as the Jovian-1 satellite model – a student-led spacecraft mission designed, built and tested by engineering and physics students. The University's Astrophysics Group will also have a range of telescopes for onlookers to try spotting stars and planets.
The region's space sector will also have a presence at the takeover, which will give visitors a chance to speak to employers, see spacecraft models, propulsion tanks, circuit boards and satellite panels.
Importantly, visitors can also try on a space suit and take a photo.

This year's takeover will be the first to include SEN-friendly space activities at Guildford Library.
