SurreyIDEA launches Business Boost 2020

Last month, SurreyIDEA launched its Business Boost 2020 (BB2020) programme.

BB2020 is a programmed funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and is designed and delivered alongside the ESRC Impact Acceleration Accounts at the University of Surrey, the University of Essex and the University of Sussex, as well as the South East Network for Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnerships (SeNSS).

The BB2020 programme aims to engage and support early career researchers (ECRs) and doctoral students across the social sciences, to understand the value and equip them with the knowledge, skills and competencies to engage with business.

The programme, which began in June and will run through to March 2021, consists of a range of workshops and modules which have launched online. BB2020 builds on the pedagogic approach developed in SurreyIDEA over the past 18 months and takes participants on a journey through identifying business challenges, innovating business models, solving live business problems and commercialising knowledge creation. In addition, online resources support the development of online collaboration and the harnessing of diverse thinking and networking.

Crafted from SurreyIDEA's 'IDEA in a Day' programme, three taster sessions named 'An IDEA in 3 hours' hosted by Professor Andy Adcroft and Jon Teckman, Surrey Business School Associate and Director of Fletcher Teckman Consulting, took place last month and engaged 50 ECRs and doctoral students.

"The taster sessions were well received by participants who were taken on a whistle-stop tour of online collaboration and harnessing diverse thinking using techniques pioneered in the film industry to address business challenges raised by the pandemic lockdown." - Professor Andy Adcroft

The next workshop takes place at the end of July and is based on innovating business models.
