Biography
I am a researcher with expertise in perinatal suicidality, screening and assessment of perinatal mental health, and applied health research. My broader research interests centre on improving how mental health and suicidality among women are understood, identified, assessed and responded. I am a research fellow working on the Wellcome Trust funded ‘Nurse Suicide Study’, specifically work package 5 which is exploring the impact of workplace complaints and investigations on distress and suicidality in women nurses. My previous research focused on approaches to exploring and measuring suicidality in pregnant and postnatal women, highlighting important limitations in the reliance on depression-based measures for identifying suicidality in maternity care and generating new evidence from women and healthcare professionals to inform the development of more compassionate, inclusive approaches to assessment and conversations about suicide in these settings. I work closely with UK and international networks and third sector organisations to ensure research is translated into meaningful impact and change.
