This course is for students who have met their English language entry requirements and want to ensure they are fully prepared for their studies or have achieved the IELTS overall condition with 0.5 lower in one specified skill.

Course overview

Students complete academic assignments and give presentations, have access to all university facilities and are able to learn how to make the most of their time at Surrey. It is a great chance to make sure you know exactly what is required to succeed during your studies in English, even if your language level is already high.

Course elements include:

  • Critical research skills
  • Study skills
  • Writing extended essays
  • Giving presentations
  • Using the library and IT facilities

Minimum entry requirements

Students applying for the five-week courses must have qualified for entry to Surrey before the start of the course.

The table above shows the minimum requirements for entry onto PS5 for students who need 6.5 overall with no lower than 6.0 in each component.  For students who are required to have a higher or lower IELTS Academic score for the degree offer condition, the minimum entry levels for all pre-sessional courses will be correspondingly higher or lower. 

If you require a CAS for a Tier 4 visa you will need to supply a UKVI IELTS report.
