Describe your placement experience
Being on placement has not only taught me about what it is like to work in the accounting and auditing world, but it has also given me the opportunity to learn so much about myself. During placement, I have obtained a better understanding of how I work in a professional working environment, as well as discovering my strengths and areas of interest. It has helped me to identify the career path I wish to pursue after university, and I am grateful to have gained this insight now rather than later in my career. My placement experience has definitely been full of growth and exploring new opportunities.
What were the best things about it?
"The best thing about placement is the change in environment and the structured routine it brings. From being a full time student to working full time, it was initially challenging to adjust to such a big change, but I quickly adapted to the new lifestyle, which I really enjoy."
Additionally, I have been able to meet new people and build strong connections with colleagues across different departments. This made me feel more comfortable and welcome at Kingston Burrowes.
Have your career plans been informed by your placement?
Yes, my placement has played a key role in my career plans. This opportunity has confirmed my interest in auditing, as the role aligns with my skills and interest. During placement, I was given the chance to work with the accounts team on some bookkeeping tasks, which I also found interesting. Auditing remains my primary interest, but I plan to continue exploring various career options within the finance sector.
What advice do you have for students considering doing a placement?
My advice would be to take the placement year, as it’s not only a good opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the career of your choice, but during that year you learn so much about yourself, which helps to build your self confidence. Placement may be a chance for you to get out of your comfort zone and explore opportunities you may have been afraid to do in the past.
