Having completed my undergraduate degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management at Surrey, I was already familiar with the university’s high academic standards, excellent teaching staff, and strong industry connections. My positive undergraduate experience gave me the confidence that the master’s program would further enhance my knowledge and open doors to advanced career opportunities.

One of the best things about Surrey is its strong academic reputation, especially in hospitality and tourism, which attracts students from around the world. The campus provides a vibrant and supportive environment with excellent facilities and a diverse student community.
As for my course, Strategic Hotel Management offers a perfect balance between theory and practical application, with a strong focus on strategic thinking, and real-world challenges in the hotel industry. The lecturers are experienced and well-connected, often bringing in guest speakers and organizing networking events. I also appreciated the collaborative learning atmosphere and the emphasis on group work, which reflects the teamwork required in the hospitality sector.
Overall, both the university and the course have been instrumental in preparing me for a successful career in hotel management.
What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?
Life at Surrey as a postgraduate student is both enriching and well-balanced. The university offers excellent academic support, modern facilities, and a strong sense of community, which makes it easy to stay focused and motivated.
Guildford is a safe, vibrant town with plenty of shops, and green spaces, offering a great quality of life just a short train ride from London.
As a postgraduate, I liked the flexibility in my schedule, which allowed me to balance studies with other social activities. There are also many events, societies, and networking opportunities tailored specifically for postgraduates, helping to build both professional connections and friendships. The supportive environment at Surrey truly enriches both personal growth and professional development throughout the postgraduate journey.
What are your career plans?
My career plan is to return to Greece and build a successful career in the hospitality industry. With the knowledge gained from the Strategic Hotel Management course, I aim to work in hotel management and gradually move into a senior leadership role. My long-term goal is to contribute to the growth and innovation of the Greek hospitality sector by introducing international best practices and forward-thinking strategies.
