How has the Surrey MBA impacted your professional path?

I began my career as a Cloud Ops Engineer, where my role was deeply technical and focused on system infrastructure. Seeking to move beyond a technical support function, I pursued the Surrey MBA to acquire the specific business and financial acumen needed for a strategic career.

This new, integrated skill set was the direct catalyst for my successful pivot into EPM Consulting and subsequently led me to my current role as the Financial Systems Specialist at NEXT Plc.

Why did you choose the Surrey MBA?

The University of Surrey stood out as my top choice for several key reasons. Its proximity to London offers unparalleled access to a global business hub, providing a unique advantage for networking and career opportunities. I was also highly impressed by the university's robust alumni network, which provides invaluable connections and mentorship.

Finally, the programme's emphasis on a practical, hands-on approach to learning - through case studies, consulting projects, and workshops - aligns perfectly with my goal of applying theoretical knowledge to real-world business challenges.

What was the most valuable aspect of the MBA?

The most valuable aspect of the MBA programme was the diverse cohort and the extensive industry experience of the professors. As someone with a background in technology, the opportunity to learn from peers with varied professional experiences - from marketing to finance - significantly enriched my understanding of different business functions. The professors, with their practical, real-world knowledge, provided invaluable insights that went beyond theoretical concepts, opening up a wide range of new learning opportunities.

Did you have the opportunity to network during your studies?

My programme provided several valuable networking opportunities, primarily through guest lectures and summer networking event, which allowed me to connect directly with alumni. These interactions were crucial for gaining insights into various industries and for receiving guidance on my post-MBA career path.

For those still undecided about applying, what would you tell them?

From my experience, I can confidently say that the Surrey MBA has an immense amount to offer, providing the tools and network necessary to achieve your career aspirations.
