Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?

I chose the MSc in Sustainable Semiconductor Technologies (previously titled Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy MSc) at the University of Surrey because I wanted to specialise in renewable energy and advanced materials after completing my Chemical Engineering degree. The course combines both theoretical knowledge and practical research, which was exactly what I was looking for. Surrey also has a strong reputation in energy and nanotechnology research, and the opportunity to work on a dissertation related to perovskite solar cells made it an easy choice for me. I felt it was the right place to develop both my technical skills and my research experience for my future career.

What are the best things about Surrey and your course?

One of the best things about Surrey is how supportive the lecturers and supervisors are. They are approachable and always willing to help, especially when working on research projects. I also like that the course covers a wide range of topics, giving a broader understanding of the field. My dissertation has allowed me to apply what I've learned to a real research project, making the course both challenging and rewarding.

What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?

I really like the balance between studying and daily life at Surrey. The campus has everything you need, and Guildford is a safe and peaceful place to live. As an international student, I found it easy to meet people from different countries and backgrounds. The library and study spaces are great, especially when working on assignments or my dissertation, and the campus is well connected if you want to explore nearby places like London.

What are your career plans?

After completing my master's degree, I hope to start my career in the UK, ideally in research and development within the renewable energy or advanced materials sector. I'm particularly interested in technologies such as perovskite solar cells and next-generation energy materials. In the long term, I'd like to contribute to developing more sustainable energy technologies while continuing to grow both technically and professionally.

What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?

I'd recommend coming with an open mind and being ready to learn from different areas of science and engineering. The course can be challenging, but it's also very rewarding, especially if you're interested in research. Don't be afraid to ask questions or talk to your lecturers as they're very supportive. I'd also suggest starting your dissertation work early, as it gives you more time to explore your project and get the most out of the experience.
