How it works

The University of Surrey‘s supportive environment for young entrepreneurs is reflected in our membership of SETsquared, a collaboration with the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Southampton. SETsquared supports the growth and success of new business opportunities through spin-outs, licensing and incubation. It also works with industry through research collaboration and consultancy.

We run events, workshops and development programmes to support young entrepreneurs to develop their skills and their business ideas. The annual Enterprise Summer School is delivered in partnership with the University for the Creative Arts, and is open to students and alumni of both establishments.

There are opportunities too for businesses and entrepreneurs to work with our dynamic and enterprising students.

Activities week

Most undergraduate students in Surrey Business School will take part in Activities Week at least once in each academic year. The week of intensive practical activities, workshops and competitions is designed to develop your personal, business and enterprise skills and give you the opportunity to put into practice the theory learnt in lectures and seminars.

Space for your business

The University provides a range of spaces designed to support entrepreneurs as they develop their businesses. The Enterprise Centre is a campus based office incubator where students and alumni can develop and pilot their business. Studio offers retail incubator space and Food Kiosk is used by students to test catering business ideas.

The Hub is dedicated office space within Surrey Business School set aside for the use of our student enterprise societies and the ventures they are supporting.

Surrey Incubation is based in the Surrey Technology Centre on the University’s Research Park and offers exceptional business support for high-tech start-ups with the potential for high-growth.

Support and funding

Crowd funding

The University, in collaboration with the Student Enterprise Team, Alumni and Development Office, Student’s Union and Surrey Business School, has partnered with crowd funding experts Crowdfunder to launch Surrey’s very own crowd funding platform. Any University of Surrey student/group of students, staff member, club or society within the University can use the online platform.
