What our students say

James Willsmore

Medical Physics MSc

The Braithwaite scholarship greatly eased the pressure and allowed me to focus less on the financial burden of the degree and more on enjoying what I came to Surrey to do: to further my knowledge of the subject area I wanted to make my career in.

Sasha

Mathematics MSc

I studied for my undergraduate degree at Surrey and enjoyed it so much that I simply didn’t feel ready to finish, so staying here for another year to study the MSc Mathematics was an easy decision.

Facilities

What we have to offer

Strong research

We have a strong reputation for research, developing innovative applications. Our courses reflect this with taught modules and dissertation topics closely aligned with the work of our research groups.

Mathematics seminars

Each semester we run seminars for our students to give a taste of research beyond the core curriculum.

Physics Teaching Assistant Scheme

Each year, we offer a Teaching Assistant Scheme for our MSc Physics students so they can earn while they study, by providing teaching support to undergraduate students. You can expect to earn around £1,000 to £2,000 per annum, depending on the number of hours you work.

Site visits and career fairs

Open days at research institutes and labs are available for our students. We also promote specialist careers fairs in areas such as technology, aerospace and aviation, as well as organise visits to part of the Medical Physics Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Employer talks

Each semester, there is a programme of employer talks held in the School. Past speakers have included, Framestore (digital media/special effects), Ultra Electronics (nuclear radiation detectors), Culham Centre for Fusion Energy,
NPL (National Physical Laboratory).

Join a society

Here at Surrey we offer plenty of societies that you could join from sports, to cooking, to subject specific groups like our maths and physics societies.
