4th Inspirational Physics lecture

The Department hosted their Inspirational Physics event on 21st October 2015, attended by around 200 secondary school students interested in studying physics

The keynote speaker was Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock who gave an engaging talk entitled ‘International Year of Light’ to an audience of around 200 Year 9 – Year 12 students from local schools, all sharing a keen interest in studying Physics at University level. Maggie shared a lot of her career highlights alongside some exciting photos to accompany her presentation.

Alongside Maggie was our very own Surrey academic Professor Jim Al-Khalili who closed the event with his very impressive talk ‘Time Travel in Einstein’s Universe’. This was particularly well received by the audience with lots of questions following on.

Remaining talks were given by Professor Justin Read and his talk titled ‘One Hundred Years of General Relativity’ and Dr Elizabeth Cunningham who spoke about ‘Nuclear Astrophysics and Your Career.’ Both speakers are Surrey academics.
