Estate strategy
Our Estate Strategy sets out a clear long‑term vision for how the University’s campus will evolve to support future teaching, research and the wider student experience. It is supported by a comprehensive Master Plan, which provides an integrated framework for the physical development of our estate, and a Development Prospectus, which outlines priority projects and investment opportunities. Together, these documents guide how we will shape, enhance and sustainably grow our estate to meet the needs of current and future generations.
Future Campus Strategy 2026–2041
The Future Campus Strategy 2026–2041 sets out how we will evolve Surrey’s physical and digital estate to support Vision 2041 and strengthen our position as a leading UK and global university. The campus is treated as a strategic asset that enables academic excellence, research leadership, student success and community impact.
Over the next 15 years, estate investment will focus on:
- Using space better – data‑led space management and improved utilisation of existing buildings.
- Delivering sustainability and Net Zero – low‑carbon infrastructure, efficient buildings and climate‑resilient, biodiverse public realm.
- Creating a smart, digital estate – intelligent building systems, a campus digital twin and technology‑enabled user experience.
- Designing flexible, future‑ready spaces – adaptable teaching, research and social environments that support changing needs
- Supporting research and innovation – high‑quality laboratories, innovation spaces and stronger integration with Surrey Research Park.
- Enhancing campus experience and community – accessible, welcoming, inclusive spaces that promote wellbeing and belonging.
- Enabling growth and financial resilience – strategic development of accommodation, commercial activity and partnerships.
These priorities are underpinned by robust master planning, governance, investment strategy and performance monitoring to ensure the estate continues to deliver long‑term value for students, staff, researchers and partners.
