ADA masters plus PhD studentships

As part of the Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarships Network for AI-Enabled Digital Accessibility (ADA) at the University of Surrey. We are pleased to announce we have masters plus PhD studentships available for applicants who would like to complete an MSc degree with the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) before starting their PhD in the ADA Network.

The Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) is the proud home of the Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarships Network for AI-Enabled Digital Accessibility (ADA). The ADA network explores how advances in AI can be used alongside human expertise to improve access to digital content for a wide range of users. Our focus is on enhancing accessible communication and creating high-quality accessible content at scale. 

As part of the ADA Network, we are pleased to announce that for the first time we have masters plus PhD studentships available for applicants who would like to complete an MSc degree at CTS before starting their PhD in the ADA Network. Successful applicants, who meet funder criteria, will be eligible for a studentship which covers masters fees, and PhD fees and stipend at UKRI’s standard domestic rate. This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a fully funded pathway from masters to PhD in the ADA Network.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Master’s plus PhD Scholarships, candidates must fulfil the following funder criteria:

  1. Be a UK-domiciled student
  2. Not already have a masters degree from the host institution
  3. Be from a low-income household background as evidenced by, for example, being in receipt of a full maintenance loan or Special Support loan during their undergraduate studies 

and/or

  • Be one of the following categories of ethnicity
    • Black African
    • Black Caribbean
    • Black Other
    • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
    • Mixed – White and Black African
    • Other mixed background (including Black African, Black Caribbean and Black Other).

  1. Apply for a place on the AI for Translation and Interpreting Studies MSc programme
  2. Complete the studentship application form
  3. Email a copy of your CV and transcript to cts@surrey.ac.uk with your name and ‘ADA masters plus PhD’ in the subject line.
