The Manly Trust Engineering Bursary 2022 entry

The Manly Trust will provide a gift of £9,000 over three years (£3,000 per year, not including Professional Training Year) for an undergraduate bursary in Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) at the University of Surrey. The bursary is available to one first-year undergraduate student, having begun their studies in Engineering at the University of Surrey in Autumn 2022.

About

The Manly Trust's primary objective is to advance the science of engineering by granting financial assistance to organisations that encourage an interest in STEM subjects amongst young people or that promote or provide education in engineering. The Manly Trust has agreed to provide a gift of £9,000 over three years (£3,000 per year, not including Professional Placement Year) for an undergraduate bursary in Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) at the University of Surrey. The bursary is available to one first year undergraduate student, having begun their studies in Engineering at the University of Surrey in Autumn 2022.

Eligibility criteria

Core eligibility for the bursary are as follows:

  • Be a UK domicile (home) student
  • Have attended a state school in the South-East of England
  • Started an undergraduate degree in Engineering at the University of Surrey in Autumn 2022

Applicants must also meet one or more of the additional criteria below:

  • In receipt of the 16-19 Bursary
  • Belong to the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showman or Boater community
  • Eligible for Free School Meals in the past 6 years
  • A Carer (You provide unpaid care for a friend or family member who could not cope without your support due to illness, disability, a mental health issue or substance misuse) 
  • Are from areas with a high Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) Quintile 1 or Quintile 2*
  • Are from areas of Low Participation in Higher Education (LPN) POLAR4 Quintile 1 or Quintile 2**.

*Check the IMD ranking of your home postcode in the online look up tool. To be eligible your postcode needs a 1-4 in column F.

** Check the POLAR ranking of your home postcode by using the online look up tool.

In the case of multiple eligible applicants, preference will be given to female applicants and those of an ethnic minority background.

How to apply

To apply for this bursary, students with offers from the University of Surrey should complete all sections of the application form (docx). If you are the holder of an In2Surrey Scholarship offer you are eligible to apply as long as you meet the stated key criteria.

The application form (docx) must be completed and submitted by the deadline date, which is 28 February 2023.
