Two highly competitive merit-based scholarships offering a 50% tuition fee reduction are available for outstanding postgraduate applicants from Vietnam who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, initiative, and strong problem-solving ability.
About
The Vietnam Flagship Postgraduate Scholarship recognises outstanding postgraduate applicants from Vietnam who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership capability, initiative, and strong problem-solving skills.
The award is designed to attract and support outstanding students of high academic calibre to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Surrey and make a positive impact in their profession and wider society.

Value of each award: Each award offers a 50% tuition fee reduction for a full-time postgraduate programme commencing in September 2026. The award is applicable for the first year only. Courses excluded from the award are: part-time, distance-learning courses, MSc Applied Analytical Chemistry, MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, MSc Biotechnology, MSc Human Nutrition, MSc Food Science, and the MBA course.
Eligibility criteria
In order to be eligible, applicants must:
- Be an overseas fee-paying student
- Hold an offer to study a full-time masters programme* at Surrey
- Be self-funded (you must be paying for your studies independently rather than being sponsored or in receipt of another scholarship)
- Be a Vietnamese passport holder residing in Vietnam
- Achieved or expected to achieve the equivalent of a UK First Class Honours degree (GPA 8.0/10 in Vietnam)
- Not be from the Surrey International Study Centre (SISC)
- *Excludes part-time, distance-learning courses, MSc Applied Analytical Chemistry, MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, MSc Biotechnology, MSc Human Nutrition, MSc Food Science, and the MBA course.
- The award is not deferrable (if applicants are deferring, they will need to reapply for the award. This will also be subject to the award availability).
- Applicants in receipt of the Vietnam Flagship Postgraduate Scholarship will not be eligible for any other Surrey scholarship. This scholarship cannot be combined with the alumni or early payment discounts.
- For two-year postgraduate courses, the scholarship award is valid for the first year only.
Additional expectations
If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be expected to:
- Act as an ambassador of the University of Surrey and of the scholarship scheme during your studies.
- Attend and participate in marketing or recruitment activities to share your experience as a Surrey student and scholar.
How to apply
Applicants must complete the scholarship application form before the deadline.
- You must hold a valid offer from the University of Surrey to apply. Applications without a student ID and offer will not be assessed
- Only eligible applicants (as per criteria above) will be considered.
All scholarship applications will be reviewed after the deadline. We reserve the right to close applications before the stated deadline, so please apply as soon as possible. Successful applicants will be informed by the end of July.
There is a limited number of Vietnam Flagship Postgraduate Scholarship available and only successful candidates will be notified.
