About

EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway positions are intended to help universities retain, recruit and support the best PhD students receiving EPSRC support to increase the impact of their PhD, and to improve retention of the very best students in research careers.

Application deadline: 28 November 2025.

Start date: The start date is fixed to the start of January 2026.

Eligibility criteria

Open to any UK or international candidates. Up to 30% of our UKRI funded studentships can be awarded to candidates paying international rate fees. Find out more about eligibility.

You should have completed your EPSRC funded PhD studentship within one year of the start date having submitted your thesis between 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026. 

To be eligible to apply, candidates:

  • Must be EPSRC-funded students (that is, they must have received fees and/or stipend from an EPSRC training grant or have been funded on an EPSRC research grant).
  • Should meet the EPSRC's expectation that they are academically in the top 10-15 per cent of their cohort.
  • Must have either already submitted their PhD thesis or be reasonably expected to do so in advance of the proposed start date of funding.

Please complete the Pathways application form (docx), the supervisor recommendation form (docx) and the Head of School form (docx). All sections in the application form must be completed and returned to Feps-addc@surrey.ac.uk.

All three forms must be submitted as a docx (word) file format. Any late or incorrectly formatted applications will not be reviewed.
