Graduation

Venue, travel and parking

How to get here

For information on how to get to the University by train, car, coach and airplane take a look at our visit the University site.

Parking

All cars are to be parked in the University car parks as directed by security staff. There is no need to park in the ‘pay and display’ car park.

If you are travelling in more than one car, please ensure someone in each car has a parking permit, which can be requested when booking your graduation tickets. If bookings have closed then please email ceremonies@surrey.ac.uk. Permits will be sent to you along with your tickets. Please display the permit clearly in the windscreen.

There will be no parking in the Senate House car park. Parking is limited and we can therefore not guarantee parking spaces.

There is limited accessible parking at the reception marquee. If you need to use one of these spaces please email the Events team. Otherwise you are welcome to drop guests off at Perimeter Road, opposite the 5G Building, a few minutes’ walk from the marquee entrance, before parking in the main University Car Park for the duration of the reception.

Parking at the Cathedral is reserved for those with special requirements, who have previously informed the Exams and Graduation team.

The venue

The graduation ceremonies will be held at the Guildford Cathedral. It is a beautiful venue based right next to the University campus.

The following items are not permitted in the Cathedral:

  • Large bags and suitcases
  • Selfie sticks
  • Helium balloons
  • Food and drink (apart from water)

Large bags and suitcases

You and your guests are advised not to bring large bags or suitcases to the Cathedral. However, if you do have to bring them, you will not be able to take them into the Cathedral with you due to security reasons and limited space.

There will be a ‘left luggage’ facility for your use at the Cathedral, but please be aware that your bags may be searched and are left at the owner’s risk. At the end of the ceremony, it is the owner’s responsibility to collect their piece of luggage.

Accessibility

There is a ramp via the west entrance to the Cathedral, and wheelchairs are available inside. For further information visit the Guildford Cathedral site.

Toilets

The nearest toilets to the Cathedral are in the refectory building adjacent to the flight of steps leading from the University campus, there is also disabled access for these.

First aid

First aiders will be on duty at the Cathedral.
