Academy of Medical Sciences elects Surrey immunologist as Fellow
The University of Surrey's Professor Deborah Dunn-Walters, a world-renowned immunologist, has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

The Academy has elected Professor Dunn-Walters for her exceptional contribution to the medical sciences.
At Surrey, Professor Dunn-Walters leads a research group that examines how the immune system changes as we age. Her team studies B cells – a type of white blood cell – and how they respond to infections. Her team also works on better ways to analyse immune responses, including how the body reacts to viruses like COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. She has worked with labs around the world and has chaired several international conferences on B cells.
With more than 100 publications to her name, Professor Dunn-Walters is one of the UK’s most respected immunologists. She has served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) and was Chair of the British Society for Immunology (BSI) COVID-19 Taskforce during the pandemic. She currently serves as a trustee for the BSI and is Chair of the Vivensa Foundation.
