Annual Sustainability Report celebrates Surrey's commitments and achievements

The University’s Annual Sustainability Report illustrates continued progress in reducing carbon emissions and embedding sustainability across all areas of the University.

The report showcases the University’s new delivery plans that are now in place to support sustainability improvements across several key areas including net zero carbon, procurement, water, biodiversity, catering, waste, scope 3 emissions and climate resilience.

Sustainability delivery plans have been developed alongside relevant teams to support sustainable progress at the University. I’d like to thank all teams involved for the work they are already doing to embed these plans – together we are making positive, sustainable change. Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability

Alongside key delivery plans, the report details progress in reducing the University’s scope 1 and 2 emissions - with a 25% reduction achieved against the baseline year. Initial steps to transition to renewable energy have also been taken, with the report detailing the University’s first major solar power installation at Surrey Sports Park.

Further highlights include an increase of participation in sustainable engagement programmes, including Green Impact and LEAF, as well as the launch of a new student initiative – the Sustainability Mark. The report reflects on how these initiatives aim to encourage staff and student engagement, whilst enabling and empowering them to make their own sustainable change.
