GCARE’s Guildford Living Lab Supports Community Involvement at Guildford Green Day 2025

GCARE’s Guildford Living Lab engaged the community at Guildford Green Day 2025, promoting clean air and climate action. The team showcased real-time air quality displays, making complex data accessible to the public. The event, praised by local leaders, fostered valuable conversations and strengthened partnerships. GCARE remains committed to community collaboration and creating a cleaner, healthier future.

The Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE)’s Guildford living lab (GLL) team was delighted to engage with the local community on Guildford Green Day 2025 on the 08 June 2025, a community-wide event organised in partnership with Guildford Borough Council to celebrate Clean Air Day. The event brought together local residents, businesses, researchers, and community groups to explore practical, evidence-based approaches to tackling climate change and improving air quality in the region.

Cllr George Potter, Lead Councillor for Environment and Climate Change at Guildford Borough Council, praised the event as “a great success and a real community effort. We were especially pleased to welcome back the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE) and the Guildford Living Lab, who shared their latest research and sparked valuable conversations about air quality. This year’s event has strengthened our foundation for future projects, and we’re excited to keep building on this important work with our community.”

Professor Prashant Kumar, Founding Director of GCARE added “At GLL, we were delighted to be invited back to Guildford Green Day. Meaningful engagement with the local community is at the core of what we do at both GLL and GCARE. It ensures that our work remains relevant, accessible, and genuinely beneficial to those on the ground. This event offered a fantastic opportunity to share our work, while building valuable connections with local residents, council representatives, businesses, and charities.”

GCARE’s presence at the event focused on engaging the public with interactive displays of real-time air quality data. Visitors had the opportunity to explore how pollution levels (PM2.5) change throughout the day at Guildford High Street. The display translated PM2.5 data into accessible insights for the public, encouraging conversations about personal exposure and everyday actions that contribute to cleaner air.

One of the visitors commented, “The real-time air quality display set up by the GCARE team was a standout feature, offering visitors an engaging and informative look at how air pollution varies throughout the day. It helped translate complex data into something the public could easily understand and sparked meaningful conversations about local air quality and everyday exposure.”

Dr. Anubhav Dwivedi from GCARE added, “Guildford Green Day 2025 was a fantastic opportunity to connect our research with the everyday experiences of the community. At GCARE, we believe in translating science into action, and it was inspiring to see so many residents engage with the real-time air quality displays and share their thoughts on building a cleaner, healthier Guildford.”

Participation in events like Guildford Green Day reflects GCARE’s commitment to connecting research with real-world impact. Through initiatives like the Guildford Living Lab, GCARE continues to work collaboratively with communities, local authorities, and stakeholders to drive forward a cleaner, healthier future for all.
