Law graduate wins Inner Temple scholarship
New Law graduate Toby Manhire credits the support he received at Surrey for helping him secure a prestigious scholarships to further his barrister training.
Toby, who graduated in July, is one of a select few to receive The Honorable Society of the Inner Temple Scholarship to fund his Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). The award recognises a range of qualities, including academic ability, motivation and potential.
“I certainly could not have achieved it without the support of the staff at Surrey and the people I met whilst studying there,” said Toby. “The University is dedicated to making sure you achieve your potential, supporting you to reach academic and professional excellence, and I’m well on my way!”
Toby was President of the University of Surrey Law Society last year and relished the opportunities it brought, describing it as one of the greatest experiences he’s ever had.
However, it could have been very different. Toby initially took up a place at another university but didn’t enjoy the course and decided to leave. When he visited Surrey, he knew it was the place for him and Law was what he wanted to do.
“I started at Surrey after taking a year out, and I haven’t looked back since. I loved Surrey from the moment I arrived. From the University, to the people, to the course itself, everything was exactly what I had been looking for. If only I had made the right decision in the first place!”
