University of Surrey and University of Buenos Aires Deepen Academic Collaboration
The University of Surrey recently welcomed Professor Pablo Evelson, Dean of School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry in the University of Buenos Aires, for a meeting with Dr Fernando Martinez Estrada, Professor Clare Mills, and colleagues to strengthen academic ties and explore new avenues of collaboration.

During the discussions, both institutions emphasized the importance of advancing joint research in pressing areas such as immunology, environmental health, and cardiovascular sciences. Opportunities were identified for cooperation on themes including the effects of pollution on human health, gluten peptides and immunology, and models for cardiovascular research.
The meeting also underscored the value of student mobility and exchange. Plans were outlined to create new pathways for students from Argentina and Chile to undertake research placements in the UK, alongside opportunities for Surrey students to spend time at partner institutions in Latin America.
In addition to research and exchange initiatives, both parties highlighted the significance of pedagogic collaboration. Conversations included the development of shared methods in teaching and student engagement, with an eye toward securing funding to support bilateral academic visits.
Further opportunities for joint action were noted, including participation in the University of Surrey’s Institute of Advanced Studies Fellowship Scheme and potential outreach initiatives linked to public health, education, and cultural preservation.
