
Dr Amy Simpson
About
Biography
Amy has over 15 years experience conducting and leading on a wide range of applied research and evaluation projects in health and social care. Key research interests include:
- the experiences of those affected by rare, genetic and undiagnosed conditions
- how care and support for families is coordinated (and the impact this has)
- the psychosocial impact of illness, from the parent's perspective
- collaborative approaches to research and evaluation.
Amy graduated with a PhD from University of South Wales in 2019 - her thesis explored the experience and process of 'becoming a parent of a child with an undiagnosed genetic condition'. Between 2018 and 2022, Amy led on qualitative research with patients and families for a large multi-disciplinary, NIHR-funded research study - 'Coordinated Care of Rare Diseases (CONCORD)'. More recently, Amy has led on evaluations of various health and social care supports and services for families, including in the context of Adoption and for parents with learning disabilities.
Amy has held research posts at the Institute of Public Care, the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care, University College London and Genetic Alliance UK.
