YOUR TIME AT SURREY

I was drawn to Surrey because of its ideal location so close to London.  I wanted to pursue a career in the music industry and from Guildford I could easily attend music festivals, concerts, musicals, and any other cultural experience of my desire. As for my course, there was so much diversity and inclusivity, plus top of the range studio facilities and greatly experienced faculty staff. We would have lunchtime recitals, rehearsals with other musicians and I was constantly surrounded by a huge amount of talent, creativity and passion for music. We were able to combine creative composition with performance and I collaborated with musicians and other students of all years and ages which pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was constantly challenged to explore musical topics of which I had very little prior knowledge, such as Meta music, film music and music translation systems.

LIFE AFTER SURREY

After graduating from Surrey, I volunteered in the field of music therapy. I engaged in music therapy exercises and musical games to help people with mental and physical disabilities. We would have Zoom singing sessions with elderly people and people diagnosed with dementia. Alongside these sessions, I started an internship at a UK marketing / PR music agency called 'Quite Great', which was always my goal.

While working at Quite Great, I got the chance to work with various musical genres and styles, talk with magazine/website editors, music journalists, interviewers, artist managers, artists, and other music industry professionals plus get a glimpse of how things work behind the scenes of the glamourous entertainment industry.

SURREY CAREER ADVICE

My time at Surrey honestly made me realise what I enjoy doing the most and what I couldn’t picture myself doing as a career. I would tell anyone looking to get into the music industry to not to be afraid of anything and grab every opportunity and new experience you can. You never know what the future holds and when you’re able to work around something you love, you’re unstoppable.
