Course
Biomedical Science BScWhat were the best things about your course?
The laboratory practicals were always interesting and reflect how science is used in the professional workplace. The lecturers were very supportive and always offered help when needed, even if all it took was explaining something in a different way to help everyone understand the content. My Professional Training placement year as a trainee biomedical scientist at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust was amazing. It allowed me to experience what my future career could be – and now I’m actually in that career!
What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?
I am now a registered Biomedical Scientist working in the NHS. My degree was a vital part of my professional registration, and my placement gave me all I needed to register and start working at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust within a month of graduating.

What’s your advice to current students?
Think about the job you want after graduating and research what is needed to get there, a degree is not always enough! Consider the Professional Training placement; it was one of the best parts of my course which really gave me some understanding of what my future career could be. Work hard but enjoy the moments of fun along the way.
