Course

Chemical Engineering BEng (Hons)

Entry year

2019

On A-level results day, I drove to my school for 9am to pick up my results. When I opened them, I knew I hadn’t met the conditions for my firm or insurance choice, as my grades were too low. I felt very anxious, almost as if it was the end of the world.

My teacher sat with me in the school library where we started researching alternative universities and different courses – at this point I decided to begin the Clearing process and apply for a chemical engineering degree. I called Surrey’s Clearing hotline and was delighted to find out they accepted me - I couldn’t have been any happier. I felt extremely reassured that I’d gotten a place at a very good university.

Other than the course, a few factors made me consider the University of Surrey – it’s just outside of London, has a great Students’ Union and sports facilities, and is campus-based.

My university experience has been amazing and has far surpassed my expectations. I’ve made so many new friends and I even represent Team Surrey (the university’s home team). Most importantly, I’ve grown in confidence and become more responsible.

When I graduate, I want to become a chemical engineer and the modules I study at Surrey allow me to gain knowledge not only in this discipline, but many aspects of engineering.

If you find yourself going through Clearing, don’t worry. There is always something out there for everyone. Sometimes things are just meant to be.
