The amount of support I got at GSA and Surrey was massive which I really liked, as I always knew who to go to when I had questions or needed extra support.

Entry year

2023

What do you like about your course and why?

I like how in first year I was able to learn about each role in production as before coming to university I had a little bit of experience, but coming to GSA allowed me to develop my knowledge and skill. The amount of support I got at GSA and Surrey was massive which I really liked as I always knew who to go to when I had questions or needed extra support.

I like how GSA does a range of shows live and filmed which gave me the experience to develop my skills in different ways. I have built friendships with not only people on my course but also other courses at GSA due to the shows we do.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

I really liked how GSA is apart of Surrey as I am able to be part of societies, for example wind band and the Christian union, which allowed me to create friendships outside of GSA. The support from Surrey is amazing as I am able to get a quick response. I enjoyed living on campus in first year as despite living next to Rubix (our on-campus nightclub) it was quiet!  I enjoy how close the uni is to Guildford town centre so I am able to meet up with people really easily.

Tell us about your placement experience

I did a work experience in 2nd year and I'm currently on a short placement in my 3rd year. This involved me working in the industry, so I worked on an opera back at home and then worked at Laine Theatre Arts on The Witches of Eastwick and with the New Youth Music Theatre. The work experience and placement took place alongside my studies in each year.

The highlights were being able to work in a professional environment, as well as working with companies that I have grown up with.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

I want to tour and work in different countries doing a mixture of plays, concerts, musicals, operas and other bits.

What's your advice to new students?

To not be afraid to ask for help as there is so much support in both GSA and at Surrey. Make the most of your uni experience; there is also a GSA Student Society which runs events and activities, so you can create memories throughout the 3 years.
