“The incredible support and guidance is truly unrivalled and means the world to me”

Civil Engineering

"I was drawn to study Civil Engineering at Surrey because of its league table ranking, scholarship scheme and impressive employment rate.

I still remember my first tutor meeting, where my personal tutor gave me a cup of tea and helped me with a topic I was struggling with. The incredible support and guidance on offer here is truly unrivalled and means the world to me.

You can get involved in anything you want at Surrey, regardless of age, gender or background.

I have been part of a scholarship scheme, sports team, global graduate language course and civsoc society, for example. I have also given presentations to my peers about placement years and have taken numerous site visits.

Surrey’s Civil Engineering facilities are up-to-date and you can use various pieces of surveying equipment to enhance your practical studies in addition to your research. The computer labs, equipped with a range of software, are available to all.

Course content is varied, yet there is a focus on structural design, ideal preparation for the graduate job market, which requires a strong grounding in structural design.

My course was initially daunting, but I was encouraged to catch up with my peers from the word go and now I feel more confident, and a leader."
