Midwifery (Registered Midwife)

"There were many reasons why I chose to come to Surrey. I loved how the campus feels like a community and I was very impressed by the simulation suite.

It’s a great place to practise our practical skills and increase our confidence before we go to placement. The ‘Sim Mom’ is an invaluable piece of equipment, as it allows us to replicate real life and emergency scenarios which may occur when we are out in practice.

I have undertaken placements in the community setting, postnatal ward, labour ward, triage, antenatal clinic and day assessment unit.

You learn so much so quickly while on placement. I have worked with some great mentors who have taught me lots about midwifery and pushed me to help me meet my full potential.

One of the best things about going on placement is the huge sense of achievement you feel when women say that they couldn’t have done it without you, or what a huge support you have been to them during a challenging time.

When I graduate as a qualified midwife I hope to gain lots of experience in different settings. I want to give patients and their families a good experience of the NHS, proving to them what an invaluable service it is.

Eventually, I would like to become a lecturer of midwifery, as I enjoy teaching and would love to be able to pass my knowledge and experience on to others."
