The best thing about the course was the writing workshop class. I loved how it was conducted, with each member of the class acting as both writer and reader. I think it was a brilliant way to improve my story-telling technique.

Creative Writing MAGraduation year
2020What were the best things about your course?
The best thing about the course was the writing workshop class. I loved how it was conducted, with each member of the class acting as both writer and reader. We exchanged our writing pieces and gave each other feedback. I think it was a brilliant way to improve my story-telling technique.
What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?
I'm an independent writer in Thailand. I write fantasy novels, and my recent work just won first prize at the Chomnard Award 2025, which is given to female authors in Thailand. According to the committee and readers, I received many compliments on how I narrated scenes and created atmosphere. I learned these writing techniques in my MA classes at Surrey and adapted them in my story.
What’s your advice to current students?
Keep on writing, even if you're not sure what kind of writing you're good at. Someday you'll find your voice, just don't stop writing. Be open-minded.
