English literature and creative writing

In their study of literature, our academics and students look beneath the surface in search of deeper meanings – and explore what writing tells us about our world, our times, our past and ourselves.

Our courses are highly ranked in the UK, sitting 8th for Iberian languages and 7th for French in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, 9th for English in the Guardian University Guide 2023 and 7th for English, 4th for German and 5th for Iberian languages in the Complete University Guide 2023.
