What do you like about your course and why?

I enjoy the law course at Surrey because it prepares you for various professional careers. We tackle current issues and delve into scenarios that simulate the real work of legal professionals. 

You’re constantly developing key, transferable skills applicable to legal and non-legal careers, many of which are subconsciously taught when your ‘brain is re-wired’ as Timothy James (senior lecturer) likes to point out! 

By the time you start to apply for internships, graduate schemes and work opportunities, you realise just how many useful tools the course has equipped you with. Moreover, you gain practical legal knowledge that can be applied in everyday life, which is a great bonus!

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

What I enjoy most about Surrey is the opportunity it offers to grow and socialise outside the lectures, especially through societies like the Law Society. Getting involved allowed me to meet so many incredible, like-minded people, where we could all unwind after a long day of learning and have fun at events! 

What do you want to do when you graduate?

When I graduate, I hope to complete the SQE exams and then start my training contract to qualify as a corporate lawyer. I want to explore different areas of practice and hopefully be able to take up a secondment abroad to experience a new culture and environment. 

What's your advice to new students?

Try everything! Plunge yourself into every opportunity that comes your way and get out of your comfort zone. This could mean taking part in competitions, getting involved in social events or just trying something completely new that you would’ve never considered before university. Expanding your talents and interests means that you'll have more perspectives and ideas to contribute when studying the Law course.
