My time at university

Guildford, where the University of Surrey is located, is a great place to study. It is so green and there are lots of parks, plus our own on campus lake, which has been a beautiful backdrop to lots of my favourite moments at Surrey. I also find Guildford incredibly easy to navigate without a car. I love being able to walk to town, to the cinema and to my lectures all from my accommodation.

What I like the most about my course is the people - no doubt. My lecturers and seminar leaders are brilliant at creating a supportive environment for academic and personal growth and I have always felt comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning from them. I truly believe that with a strong support system you can overcome any challenge and this has been true of my experience studying in the department of Environment and Sustainability.

I also completed a summer internship, which was very enriching and eye opening. It was challenging, but I highly recommend students seek out a similar opportunity to gain work experience in their field during university - it will come in handy!

My extra-curricular activities have been incredibly fulfilling too. Joining a society was the best decision I made in my first year as I increased proficiency in my hobby, found a community and gained a safe space to turn to in times of stress.

My plans after university

I am not sure what role I am going to go into after I graduate, but I want to contribute positively to the planet through my work. I would like to do this by pursuing a sustainability related role and exploring different sub-disciplines within this sector.

Once I find a specific discipline, I would like to pursue a masters degree in the subject, and I would also be very happy to take on roles that allow me to travel to various places and network with individuals globally!

As I reflect on my degree, I am happy that I made the decision to study this course at this university and I would highly recommend anyone considering the same pathway to do it too. There are so many modules to explore, a great support system, and professionals that are passionate about their discipline and the planet. You will be contributing beautifully to the greater good just by being here and studying Environment and Sustainability BSc, and that is a wonderful thing.
