I was determined to study the LLM programme at the university because it offered a wide variety of modules relating to international commercial law practice. This was pertinent to my decision to do my masters at Surrey.

What attracted you to choose the University of Surrey and to study for your LLM here?

The reputation of the University of Surrey preceded itself. I had heard only good reviews from friends and family who had studied in one form or another at the university.  Reviews included the quality of teaching and support, as well as the beauty and serenity of the campus, making it an amazing place to study.

What is your strongest or happiest moment of your time at the University of Surrey?

In all honesty, it will be very difficult to choose a particular moment. It was an amazing experience from the outset of the course through to the end.

What were the best things about the LLM course?

Everything! The lecturers ensured that the seminars were interactive. The students were provided with summative essays which made it easy to track one’s progress. Also, it was the norm that lecturers gave constructive feedback, as well as organised weekly clinics. These helped me realise my problem areas and tackle them. Finally, the library research support was imperative in my dissertation writing journey. It was definitely an invaluable added bonus!

However, the best thing about the LLM course was the supervision I received during my thesis writing. I was encouraged every step of the way by my supervisor, thus making it feel less of a chore and more of an exciting research journey.

How did you change as a person during your time as an LLM student?

Before I started my course as an LLM student at the University of Surrey I was struggling with low self-esteem. However, it did not take long before I started gaining confidence about my ability to succeed at whatever I put my mind to. It might have been the nature of the seminars but I started to become more involved as I was made to enjoy what I was doing.  I also started to push harder to be better and to do better. It has also given me more direction into the career path I want to pursue.

Where has your career taken you since you graduated and what impact has the Surrey LLM had upon or further study so far?

I look forward to starting at law school in June. The Surrey LLM program has helped me become more mature and has changed me in ways that I would have never imagined; it also helped boost my confidence, enabling me to be well-prepared to face challenges ahead.

What one piece of advice would you give to people considering the Surrey LLM?

Definitely go for it! The university provides the perfect environment for a student to succeed; quality teaching, supportive staff and student diversity. It is definitely the best choice to make if you are interested in a place where your success is made top priority.
