“I’m Head of Research at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). I plan and execute policy and economic research studies for the Council, which feeds recommendations to governments. My background is in consumer and market research, and I’ve carried out research for the travel industry for over 15 years. Before working for WTTC, I was Head of Travel Research at Which? – the UK’s consumer organisation – and before that I looked after market research for TUI.

When I graduated from SHTM with my MSc in Tourism Management, I did what many other people do and send out letter after letter to potential employers. Luckily for me, the words ‘University of Surrey’ stood out for one employer in particular, so they offered me an interview; then a job; kickstarting my career in tourism research. I regularly see first-hand how the School’s strong reputation continues to help its graduates today. It has fantastic staff, bright students and best of all, it knows how to apply its research and thinking to the realities of the commercial world.

I have so many fond memories of SHTM. I was fortunate to have a great group of fun and intelligent people to work and study with – many of whom I’m still in regular contact with today. The campus had everything we needed, plus it was within walking distance of Guilford and the South Downs. It was a wonderful place to live.”
