Course
Nursing Studies (Registered Nurse Adult Nursing)I spent seven years working in pensions and was a part-time tennis coach before coming to Surrey. Life changes made me re-asses what I wanted out of a career, and nursing felt right and made me happy.
When choosing where to study, location was very important to me.
Surrey also had an excellent reputation, and I had friends that were studying/had studied here and had enjoyed it. The University also has a nice campus and facilities, especially the Surrey Sports Park.
I have two children, so have to organise childcare around my shifts.
I’m currently on my fourth placement. So far, my placements have been in community nursing, neuro rehabilitation, a nursing home and in an intensive care unit.
Colleagues and mentors have been so helpful. There have been many exciting days and there’s so much to learn and have a go at, especially within the intensive care unit.
The things I’ve most enjoyed on the course include learning practical skills and forming great friendships with fellow students.
At the moment, I think I would like to spend a further year studying at Surrey for a Public Health Practice masters degree to become a health visitor, although I love emergency care too, so I will have to see next year!
I am definitely beginning to feel like a professional as I gain more knowledge and confidence.
