Schools and colleges

The Department of Mathematics values contacts with schools and colleges highly, and organises several events for students and teachers. Some examples of such events are shown below and in the previous events area. If you have a specific idea, or you would like to find out what we can offer, please get in touch with us.

Taster Day (as part of the Residential Summer School)

We offer Taster Days as part of the Residential Summer School which is held each July. This is an opportunity for eligible year 12 students from state schools and colleges to have a chance to experience studying a subject that they love in a top ten university. Students will learn in an academic environment, working with students from other schools, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and academic staff. The programmes will include lectures, seminars, practical activities, and a variety of fun social events each evening.

Further Mathematics Support Programme

The Department is a participant in the Surrey Further Maths Support Programme. Study days and A-level enrichment activities will be held on campus during the coming year.

Royal Institute Mathematics Masterclasses

The University of Surrey hosts Secondary School Masterclasses through the Royal Institute. These are designed to encourage, inspire and engage young people in the art of mathematics. Participation is through nomination via schools within the county of Surrey.
