Arts and humanities IAA
The University of Surrey’s Arts & Humanities Research Impact Programme strengthens knowledge, capacity, and partnerships to support public engagement and community collaboration, taking research beyond the University to create lasting social benefit.
The Arts and Humanities Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) at the University of Surrey supports researchers through internal HEIF funding, to build meaningful partnerships, engage the public, and translate arts and humanities research into real-world social, cultural, and policy benefits. Over the past year, the programme has funded 12 arts and humanities impact projects, supporting activity across disciplines and career stages, and enabling collaborations with over 20 partners. It has also enabled a vibrant programme of public engagement activity, including the Between the Lines: Surrey’s Hidden Histories for the national AHRC Being Human Festival, which included six co-created events across local venues, reached nearly 600 attendees, and involved 16 external partners.
Through targeted funding schemes, rapid response awards, skills training, and initiatives such as the Being Human Festival and Dragons’ Den workshops, the Arts & Humanities IAA has strengthened researcher capability, expanded collaborative networks, and supported innovative projects spanning inclusivity, heritage, digital communication, and creative practice, generating significant follow-on funding and lasting community benefit. We are building capacity and strengthening research impact in the Arts & Humanities at Surrey, which we hope will underpin a successful application for AHRC IAA funding in the future.
