Abstract

The talk will introduce the fundamentals of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PKPD) modeling. PKPD modeling is an essential tool for drug development and optimization, which involves the analysis of drug concentration-time profiles and its relationship with the drug's pharmacological effect. The talk will cover the basic concepts of PKPD modeling, including drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME), as well as pharmacodynamic parameters such as potency, efficacy, and duration of action. Briefly, the difference between small and large molecule therapeutics will be discussed. A demonstration of how mathematical models are used to simulate drug behaviour in the body and predict the drug's effects on the target tissues will be shown. The talk will also discuss the application of PKPD modeling in drug development and clinical trials, as well as its limitations and challenges.
