The challenges and opportunities facing tourism

Future of the tourism industry discussed in School alumni lecture at BAFTA in London.

The inaugural School of Hospitality and Tourism Management alumni lecture took place in London this week, with Dr Christopher Rodrigues CBE delivering the keynote speech on the challenges and opportunities facing the tourism industry.

Dr Rodrigues, an honorary Surrey graduate and Chairman of Visit Britain, delivered a lecture entitled Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose to an audience of academics, alumni and industry guests. He was then interviewed on stage by compère for the evening Ian Taylor, Executive Editor of Travel Weekly, and took questions from the audience.

Held at BAFTA – the British Academy of Film and Television Arts – the event offered attendees the chance to meet and discuss the future of the tourism industry.

Professor Graham Miller, Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, said: “We are extremely proud of the achievements of our alumni and, through this annual lecture, we are providing a forum for leading figures from the industry to explore the topics of the day, debate, reconnect, share and benefit from the network which Surrey facilitates. Many guests have an ongoing involvement with the University and School and we thank them for their continued support.”
