Music season at Surrey

The University’s School of Arts has a busy and exciting season of music events ahead. Alongside the regular Wednesday lunchtime recitals and the Friday Rush Hour Concerts featuring student performances, there is also a wealth of other musical events both on and off campus.

Pictures at an Exhibition - University Chamber Choir and Orchestra
Saturday 14 November, St Saviour’s Church Guildford, 7pm

Opening with one of Sibelius’s most colourful and popular symphonic works and closing with the beautiful and evocative Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, this evening programme also features some of the most inspiring and popular works in the choral repertoire by Elgar, Bruckner and Parry, showcasing the fabulous University Choir and Orchestra at their best.

Marmara Piano Trio Recital
Tuesday 17 November, Pats Studio One, 6.30pm

Marmara Piano Trio has emerged as an innovative ensemble through their practice of open-rehearsals and workshops reflecting on music-making and, in 2009, won a major award from the AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council of the UK) for their research on classical chamber ensemble practice.

There is also an optional 2.30pm-4pm pre-concert interactive workshop on Shostakovich Piano Trio.

MESSIAH - University of Surrey Chamber Choir
Tuesday 17 November, Holy Trinity Church Guildford, 6.30pm

The University Chamber Choir returns to Holy Trinity with a programme featuring Part I of Handel’s Messiah, one of the best known and most popular choral works in Western music. The programme will also feature new works by student composers.

University Carol Service
Wednesday 2 December, Guildford Cathedral, 5.30pm

Celebrate the festive season with traditional carols and readings for Christmas. Admission is free to this event and there will be a retiring collection in aid of charity.
