Surrey MA English Literature graduate, Rachael Featherstone, secures publishing deal

Rachael completed her MA in English Literature at Surrey in 2015, and, as one of our top students, has been awarded the MA English Literature Prize for excellence in writing and overall performance in the degree for that year.

Her debut novel, Puzzle Girl has just been signed by Accent Press, and will be published as a lead title in February 2017.

Rebecca Lloyd, senior editor at Accent Press, said: “Featherstone’s upcoming romantic comedy Puzzle Girl is Bridget Jones meets "You’ve Got Mail". Rachael is one to watch for 2017: we believe she’s the next Sophie Kinsella.”

See here for more details.

Rachael, also a writer of scholarly literary criticism, took advantage of the flexibility in the MA structure at Surrey in choosing creative writing module options from the related MA in Creative Writing to develop her fiction writing skills and to work with the creative writing team here.

We are thrilled for Rachael and immensely proud of her for her achievement in not only completing her debut novel, but also in securing this exciting publishing deal.

Also, take a look at her website, where you will find examples of her writing, her writers blog, and more.
