The University of Surrey has been named one of the best universities for sports teams, clubs and facilities in the latest Which? University student survey.
The annual survey, based on the views of more than 12,500 undergraduates, saw students rate Surrey for making sport a large part of university life and our wide range of clubs, organised sports teams and facilities open to all levels.
As well as securing a top spot in the Which? University student survey, which rated 12 institutions in the highest category for sports, Surrey recently leapt to 36th place in the 2014 British University College Sport (BUCS) rankings, up from 76th place in 2010.
Sport at Surrey
Surrey has invested significantly in student sport over recent years, with the opening of the £34m Surrey Sports Park in 2010 and the launch of our innovative BSc Sport & Exercise Sciences programme, which welcomed its first students in September 2014.
Team Surrey, the University’s sports brand, a partnership between the Students’ Union and Surrey Spots Park, offers more than 40 student sports clubs from American Football to Weightlifting, alongside an extensive programme of social and intra-mural sport.
The University has also built strong elite sporting connections through hosting international and national sporting events and training camps, and plays host to a number of professional sports teams including Harlequins Rugby Union, England Rugby Women’s Sevens, Surrey Storm Netball, Surrey United Basketball and Surrey Smashers Badminton.
Surrey Sports Park will become an official team base for Italy and Ireland during the Rugby World Cup 2015.
