5G Innovation Centre receives Guildford Society Good Design Award

The 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) was among the five winners, all recognised for their outstanding architectural standards and design.

The Guildford Society Good Design Awards ceremony was held in October at the new Barker and Stonehouse store in Ladymead.

The society’s chairman, Julian Lyon introduced each award, followed by presentation of the certificates to the architects by Robin, Countess of Onslow. Each architect was then invited up on stage to give a short presentation on their designs with Peter Dudley from Scott Tallon Walker giving a presentation on the 5GIC.

The 5GIC is a futuristic building, featuring an impressive oculus which allows light to spill down onto the large twisting staircase. The building is also designed to complement its technology, with air to air cooling and an emphasis on solar shading to the south elevation with lush planting.

The architect admitted to the audience that in the early stages of design, the long corridor with views looking out onto the lake was actually coincidental.
