Build the experience to succeed in global business with Surrey

As a Surrey Business School student, you'll go beyond learning the latest theory and engaging with current academic research. Embedded into the International Business Management MSc are opportunities to apply your knowledge to practical business challenges, work with real organisations and build a tangible portfolio of experience to show future employers.

Business projects

One example is the International Business Project, a compulsory module and the final element of the International Business Management MSc.

The project gives you the opportunity to explore a real international business issue and reflect critically on your findings. You can identify an area of interest from your studies that you would like to investigate in greater depth, and these have previously included:

  • Evaluating the most suitable market entry strategy into India for Apple
  • Examining current global supply chain difficulties of electric vehicle producers: BYD case study
  • Exploring the ways in which AI can improve digital marketing performance of Barclays.

Bringing industry into the student experience

Throughout the year, pulling on our extensive network of contacts at Surrey Business School, we invite visiting speakers to share their insight and to give insider-tips, knowledge and expertise with students. Recent guests have included:

  • Pamela Jestico, an international banker with over 30 years’ experience. During her career at HSBC as a Managing Director of the global restructuring team, Pam worked with a wide range of companies from small agricultural businesses to global multinational groups in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and the US, helping them address the financial challenges facing these companies.

  • Megan Goodwin, a content innovator and digital media entrepreneur with a successful history in deal negotiation and a talent for developing long-term business partnerships. Megan has been digital strategy advisor to some of the most notable international media companies including Endemol, Star Television, BBC Worldwide and Fox Television advising on some of the world’s best-know TV series.

  • Maria Ntogka, Surrey Alumna and Senior Global Brand Manager with over 6 years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry. We're delighted that our alumni return to share their experience after graduating from the International Business Management MSc.

Trips and events

Trips, visits and industry events give you the opportunity to put theory into practice, experience how leading organisations operate and see business challenges from new perspectives. Recent experiences have included:

  • a visit to McLaren Automotive’s headquarter focused on the impact of differing contexts within different countries and how this affects planning and preparations of the racing team
  • an international study trip to SKEMA Business school in Paris. This featured workshops, guest speakers, one company visit and a fashion tour of Paris.

Beyond the classroom

Finalists at Surrey Business School's Surrey Hatchery competition, May 2026

Outside of your studies, you’ll become part of Surrey Business School’s warm and entrepreneurial community. There’s always something taking place on campus including:

  • Hatchery Events. SBS’s very own start-up hub hosts weekly events featuring talks from successful founders, workshops, and the opportunity to network with likeminded students and industry professionals. This is a great spot if you’re looking to start your own business.
  • Annual Data to Impact challenge. A student competition where participants use data analytics and innovative thinking to develop actionable ideas addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Winners have taken home up to £1,000.

Beyond the Business School, you’ll also have access to over 100 societies. From the Business Society to Postgraduate Society, and Debating Society to Gymnastics, there is something for everyone.
